Adoption Process.

Congratulations on wanting to add a new member to your family!

All applications must be received via email through the Passionate Paws Dog Rescue email (passionatepawsdogrescue@gmail.com) to be considered for adopting. Applications are reviewed by the board members of Passionate Paws in the order they are received. The Secretary of Passionate Paws is responsible for making phone calls regarding landlords, and vet references. All information can be found on the adopter’s application. If a potential adopter does not have any current pets, the secretary is responsible for contacting at least one of the adopter’s personal references. The secretary should then report checks to the rest of the board members and the board member in charge of phone interviews.

The top applicants who have cleared and passed landlord checks, vet checks, and/or personal reference checks are contacted for a phone interview. The phone interview is a 10-15 minute conversation with a potential adopter answering a series of adoption questions regarding pet experience, training experience, household lifestyle, and routine. This interview allows board members to get a better idea if the potential adopter’s lifestyle is the best fit for said dog. The interviews are then processed into notes and shared with the rest of the board members. The board then forms a decision on who they believe makes the best fit home for said dog. This applicant is then scheduled for a meet and greet and/or adoption all in one.

Please note, that this process can take several days to complete as the board members all do this on a volunteer basis and schedules must be coordinated with board member, foster, and adoption applicant for the meet and greet and/or adoption process.

*Fosters have first choice at adoption of said dog but this decision should be made before Passionate Paws posts said dog for adoption.

*Family/Friends do NOT automatically get pushed to the front for adoption. They must complete an adoption application and phone interview like other potential adopters.

*DENIED” applicants will be given said reason that they were not approved for adoption. If this reason is able to be corrected; they can be approved for adoption at a later time upon proof of correction. For example; a current pet is not UTD on vaccinations or spayed/neutered. If the adopter gets pet(s) UTD on vaccinations and spayed/neutered and can provide vet records as proof, they can be approved at another time for adoption.

*APPROVED BUT NOT CHOSEN applicants should be notified that their applications were approved and their applications will stay active in the Passionate Paws Rescue for up to 6 months. If they become interested in another dog, they are responsible for contacting Passionate Paws and informing us that they have an application on file. They will be asked to review their application and make any updates needed.
